Growing up in California, I watched each May as my neighborhood burst into life with a kaleidoscope of dazzling fresh flowers. As a young girl, I would wake very early on Mother’s Day and carefully select the most gorgeous flowers I could find for my mom. I was always so proud of my one-of-a-kind bouquets… and luckily for me, Mom never asked where I got them!
For many years, my father, Bill Owlick, was the most respected florist in our Boston community. I remember tagging along as his “assistant,” helping him to fill churches and synagogues with extraordinary displays. I still have his book filled with lovely notes of thanks from brides and their mothers regaling his gifted artistry and his caring customer service. His shop, the Flower Bouquet, still thrives today in Newton Center.
It is an honor and my passion to carry on these precious family traditions. In 2008, we opened Jan Channon Flowers, serving Chicago’s North Shore and northern suburbs.
